Funeral services for Elek Johnson Bilberry, 90, were held Dec. 28 in the Bethel Baptist church. Rev. Victor Crabtree officiating, assisted by Rev. Norris Taylor.
Mr. Bilberry died in the Crosbyton Hospital Dec. 26. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Baptist church and had been a resident of Dickens County since 1899.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. W.F. Ponder, Jr., Corsicana; 7 sons, Alvis, Bernice, and J.C., all of Spur; A.J. and Elmer of Lubbock, Raymond, Brawley, CA; and E.J., El Centro, CA; two brothers, A.R. Bilberry, Jacksboro and Melvin, Hobbs, NM; and 24 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Grandsons, served as pallbearers. They included Jackie, Ronnie, Royce, Jerry Weldon, and Frankie Don Bilberry.

Burial was in Spur Cemetery.

Funeral services were held Tuesday for Samuel Venson Bilberry, 54, who died in St. Marys Hospital, Lubbock, Monday morning.
Bilberry, a retired farmer, had been ill for some time.

Rev. J.E. Lee officiated at the First Baptist Church, assisted by Rev. Billy Smith, Lubbock and R.d. Hill, Spur.

Bilberry had been a resident of Dickens county since 1910. He married Eva Bronson on Dec. 5, 1926, and was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, one daughter, Imajean McGee, Spur, two sons, Royce Bilberry, Dyess AFB, Abilene, and Frankie Don of Spur. His father, E.J. Bilberry, also survives along with one sister, Mrs. Bill Ponder, Corsicana and seven brothers: A.J. and E.A., Lubbock; Alvis and Bernice, Spur; Raymond, Brawley, CA; and E.J. of Brawley, CA.

Pallbearers included Ted Smith, Glen Jones, Paul Loe, Ray Caplinger, Lewis Ray Smith and Estel Hairgrove.

Interment was in Spur cemetery with Campbell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Services for Elmer A. "Bud" Bilberry, 80, of Spur will be at 3 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Genoa Goad, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Spur Memorial Cemetery under direction of Campbell Funeral Home.

He died at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Breckenridges Stephens Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness.

He was born in Portales, NM, and moved to the Roosevelt Community in 1951, then to Spur in 1973. He married Bertsye Sims June 14, 1925, in Dickens. She died March 22, 1987. He married Jetty Arnold Nov. 7, 1987.

He was a farmer, operated a store in Roosevelt, and was custodian for the Roosevelt Independent School District from 1953 until retiring in May 1973. He was a member of First Baptist Church. A son, Cloyce, preceded him in death in 1952.

Survivors include his wife; two stepsons, Jimmy Arnold of Gerard and Donnie Arnold of Olton; two daughters, Ozell Irby and Gayle Stow, both of Lubbock; three stepdaughters, Pearla Wilson of Jayton, Betty Beadle of El Paso and Alice Kidd of Spur; a sister, Ava Nell Ponder of Corsicana; six brothers, Arthur of Lubbock, Alvis and Bernice, both of Spur, Raymond of California, E.J. of Colorado and J.C. of Brownwood; seven grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and a great great grandchild.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of First Baptist church and members of his Sunday School Class.

Alvis Bilberry, 91, of Spur died Monday, April 11, 2005, in Crosbyton.
Services were held Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at Bethel Baptist Church with the Revs. Billy Smith, C.L. Atkinson and Kevin Blackburn officiating. Burial followed in Spur Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.

Mr. Bilberry was born Jan. 26, 1914 in Dickens, TX to Elek and Millie Stinnett Bilberry.

He graduated from Dickens High School in 1934 and went on to Eastern New Mexico University, where he was a member of the first football team. He married Jessie Smith December 14, 1935 at Soldier Mound Baptist Church in Dickens County. He was employed by the Texas A & M Experiment Station in Spur for 40 years before his retirement. He was a deacon at Bethel Baptist Church for many years. Alvis loved fishing, cooking, playing dominoes and entertaining his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of Spur; one daughter, Jo Ann Biggers and husband Hank of Fort Worth; one son, Jackie Bilberry of Spur; two brothers, E.J. Bilberry of Eckert, CO. and Raymond Bilberry of Grass Valley, CA.; one sister, Ava Nell Ponder of Corsicana; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the Spur Memorial Cemetery, Box 111, Spur, TX 79370 or to Senior Citizens South Dickens County, 210 Burlington, Spur, TX 79370.

Bilberry died about 5;30 a.m. September 15, 1990 in Methodist Hospital, Lubbock, following a lengthy illness. He was born in Dickens County on August 13, 1916. He had lived here most of his life. A farmer/rancher, he married Edna Futch on January 9, 1944 in Dickens County.

He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. He was a deacon in the First Baptist Church.

One son, Roy Dan Bilberry preceded him in death in 1971.

He is survived by his wife, Edna Bilberry, Spur; three sons, B.W. Bilberry, Gleenwood Springs, CO; Jerry Bilberry, Hickory Creek, TX and Ronnie Bilberry, Quitman; three daughters, Carol Stanberry, Quitman and Connie Warren and Barbara Katz, both of Dickens; four brothers, Raymond Bilberry, Magnolia, GA; E.J. Bilberry, Eckert, CO; Alvis Bilberry, Spur and J.C. Bilberry, Brownwood, one sister, Ava Nell Ponder, Corsicana; 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Pallbearers included Roy Moritz, Robert Bradshaw, Benny Fitzgerald, Randy Arnold, Kermit Woolley, Ray Hindman, Robert Hahn and Lee Kidd.

Honorary pallbearers were Lloyd Hindman, Charlie Arrington, Duane Maxwell, Lewis Blevins, Max Alldredge, Claude Barclay, Joseph Beyer, R.G. Bostic, M.H. STINNETT
Services are scheduled for February 10 at First Presbyterian Church in Artesia for Rufus M. Stinnett. Stinnett, 94, died February 7 in El Paso, Texas. Burial will be at Woodbine Cemetery in Artesia. Burial will be with Masonic Graveside Rites. Stinnett was born February 23, 1905, in Portales, NM, the son of Samuel Henry Stinnett and Mary Jane Stinnett. He married Helen Green on May 25, 1932, in Artesia. She preceded him in death on August 3, 1997. His professional life was spent in the field of education. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was a Worth Grand Patron Order of Eastern Star for the state of New Mexico in 1947-48 and served as Watchman of the Shepherds for White Shrine of Jerusalem. Survivors include a son Arba Stinnett of Novato, Calif.; a daughter Rosemary Harral of Golden, Colo.; three granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and one grandson.

The funeral of Mrs. Francis Stinnett was held in the Baptist church. Famer conduting the same assisted by Rev. J. H. Snarr. The church was filled with sorrowing relatives and sympathizing friends. Many beautiful flowers were presented.
Mrs. Stinnett was a sufferer for some time with cancer of the stomach but was confined to her bed only three weeks when released from pain by death. She was a home loving person, rarely leaving the farm. A loving mother, asplendid neighbor, enjoying the love of all who knew her.
Obituary:
Mary Francis Stinnett was born Feb. 20, 1858, died Oct. 8, 1932 at 5 p.m. at her home east of Elgin, at the age of 74 years, 7 months and 18 days.
Mary Francis Choat was married to Thomas Stinnett Dec. 5, 1880. To this union were born nine Children, two preceding her in death. One a daughter age, 21 years and a son age, 23 years. Her husband passed away Nov. 23, 1928. The surviving are Mrs. Lytha Stevens, Paradice, Kansas; Mrs. Ella Black, Mrs. May Graves and Martha Stinnett, Elgin; and sons George and john Stinnett of Elgin, Charlie Stinnett of Frederick, and a step-daughter, Mrs. Lou Tinkle, of Lawton, All where present at the funeral. She is also survived by 44 grand children and 32 great grandchildren.
She had been a member of the Baptist church for 28 years, having joined at Velma, Okla. where she remained a member until her death.
