LYTH, KING:
My great-great-great-grandfather, Ambose LYTH settled in Boone County at some time unknown to me, married in 1841, and died in Columbia MO in 1853. I have found no one with the surname Lyth in any of the lists on the home page. Are any tax records to which I can be refered. My ultimate goal is to place him in Boone county at some particular date in order to make my search of naturalization records easier.

The only reference I found was in the 1882 History of Boone County by Switzler, page 362, in the section California Emigrants: "The following list, alpabetically [sic] arranged, embraces the names, as far as known to us, of all Boone County emigrants to California in 1850. No doubt there were others whose names we were unable to obtain: ... Ambrose Lythe."
Additional:
A living Ambrose Lyth who is a distant relative of mine claims to have a copy of a marriage certificate of Ambrose Lyth and Mitilda KING, (daughter Charles KING) dated September 30, 1841, Boone County. Ambrose died June 11, 1853 in Columbia. One of four sons, James Ambrose Lyth was born in 1844. He died December 14, 1923 in Hale, Carrolton County. The emmigration to California also makes sense to me because my branch of the family homesteaded in the Gadston Purchase, moving from California to Southern Arizona. Can you think of any way to reconcile these claims. Is there any reference to settlers named King? Did a Mitilda King go to California? I wonder if Ambrose Lyth deserted his family as I am told that his wife and children ended up living with her brother James King.

In the same section there is reference to Charles King and George N. King going to California, no reference to Mitilda anywhere. Switzler also has a bio on Charles G. King on p.595. He traveled to California for 2 years and then returned to Boone County. Quite an endorsement and other family information. Several other references to C. King(s) in this reference.

Today I received from Ambrose Lyth, my second cousin once removed, the information related to Lyth's in Boone county. Ambrose Lyth, his wife Matilda and four children are listed on lines 37-42 (page unknown) in the 1850 census, District # 8. He apparently was a blacksmith. Matilda Lythe is listed in the 1860 census, page 42, line 17 as living with her brother following the death of Ambrose. The wedding record was found at the Boone County Courthouse, Book of Marriages, Book A, page 221. Two sons emmigrated to California to work on the railroad. James Lyth lived and died in Carroll county. Another son moved to St. Charles county (?). I would appreciate it if you incorporate this information into the BOONE County homepage.
