Henry G. Halsted died at his farm home on the lower angling Pewamo road two
miles northeast of Lyons on Wednesday, Aug. 7th, aged 78 years, 8 months and 24
days. He had been in failing health for some time.
Deceased was born November 14th, 1856, in Riley township, Clinton county, a son
of Mr. and Mrs. Judson Halsted. December 23rd, 1877, he was united in marriage
to Mary E. Lyon, who survives. To them were born eight children, five of whom
survive as follows: Mrs. Richard Bogert of this village; Walter Halsted of
north of Muir; Ned Halsted of Muir; Clint Halsted of east of town, and Ford
Halsted of Ionia. There are also left numerous grandchildren and great
grandchildren and a host of friends; also one sister, Mrs. Martha Youngs of
Perrinton, and one brother, Clark Halsted of Kalamazoo.
Deceased united with the Lyons M. E. church on July 22, 1920, and was faithful
in attendance while in good health. Mr. Halsted had spent practically all of
his life in Ionia county with the exception of a short period spent in Colorado.
He has been an indulgent father, a good neighbor, always ready to lend a
helping hand to those in need.
A brief prayer service was held from the late home Sunday afternoon at two
oclock, and a half hour later a funeral service was held in the Lyons M. E.
church, conducted by Rev.L. M. Whittemore. Vocal duets were sung by Mesdames
Melvin Burtraw of Muir and James Hopkins of Lyons, accompanied at the piano by
Mrs. Therrel Snyder. The bearers were E. S. Faller, E. M. Vance, S. W. Mimball,
E. I. Goodwin, Hart Brown and John Kalb. Interment in Lyons cemetery.
Those from a distance to attend the funeral were Mrs. Martha Youngs and Mr. and
Mrs. Lyman Youngs, Perrinton; Samuel Knapp and Vern Halsted, Lansing; Mr. and
Mrs. Albert Nickels, St. Johns; Mr. and Mrs. E. Landenbeck, Middleton; Clark
Halsted, Kalamazoo; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Brown, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. E. Hollie,
DeWitt; Mr. and Mrs. Foster Bogert, Grand Rapids.

Mary Lyon is "little Grandma" who fit under Great Grandma's arm. She was the one found by the side of the road in New York State by the Lyon family. She was very well dressed. Mary was born in New York City. It was thought she had fallen and wasn't noticed, it was cold and the Lyon's couldn't leave her there.

Mary Lyon washed dishes without soap.
Mary Lyon died at Lottie Bogert's house Lyons, MI. She is buried in Lyons Cemetery. The funeral was in Methodist Church-Lyons, MI. Funeral was November 26, 1948.
In Mary's obituary: Mary E. Halsted and her husband came to Lyons many years ago from Bloomer Township in Montcalm County and they lived on a farm northeast of Lyons.

Mrs. Mary E. Halsted, 91, died at 9 oclock Monday evening at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Lottie Bogert, in Lyons after a lingering illness. She had been
moved to the home of her daughter Saturday from the home of a son, Clinton of
north of Lyons where Mrs. Bogert had been caring for her.
She and her husband came to Lyons many years ago from Bloomer township in
Montcalm county and they lived on a farm northeast of Lyons. Her husband, the
late Henry C. Halsted, died several years ago.
She was a member of the Lyons Methodist church.
Surviving her are four sons, Walter S. of Ronald, Ned D. and Ford of Ionia and
Clinton of North Plains; the daughter, Mrs. Bogert of Lyons; and several
grandchildren. Two other children, Frank and Emma, preceded her in death and
another child died at birth.
The body was removed to the Shaw-Rivett funeral chapel in Muir. Funeral
services will be announced at a later date.

Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at 2 oclock for Mrs. Mary
Halsted who died earlier last week at her home in Lyons. The services were
held from the Lyons Methodist church with the Rev. Myron Hoyt officiating.
Interment was at the Lyons cemetery. Rev. Earl Buffum, pastor of Lyons Baptist
church, gave the prayer. Music was in charge of Mrs. George Steadman of Lyons
and Plyn Woodworth of Muir with Mrs. Hoyt as accompanist. Hymns sung were
requested by Mrs. Halsted before her death. Bearers included William Anderson,
Clifford Halsted of Muir, Edward Kemp, Robert Dast and Maynard Conklin, all of
Lansing, and Leonard Johnson of Grand Rapids.
Among those from away who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. Edward Kent,
Miss Aleta Halsted, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dast, Gerald Swainston, Mr. and Mrs.
Maynard Conklin, all of Lansing; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Johnson of Grand Rapids,
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Halsted, Mrs. Rich Bogart, Mr. and Mrs. William Anderson,

William A. Anderson, 83, of 4775 Hayes Road, Muir, died Tuesday morning in
Ionia County Memorial Hospital. Born August 24, 1908 in Ionia, he was the son
of John and Josephine Anderson Anderson, and attended Ionia schools. He
farmed the family farm after moving there in 1921. He was married to the
former Bessie Halsted; she died in 1969.

Surviving are a son, William J. Anderson of Muir; a daughter, Hilda Harvey of
Grand Rapids; five grandchildren; a brother, George Anderson of Grand Rapids;
and a sister, Minnie Lehman of Lake City. Three sisters and two brothers
preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. from North Plains Community Church,
with the Rev. Robert Jordan officiating. Burial will be in North Plains
Cemetery. Visiting hours will be all day Wednesday and Thursday at Hull
Memorial Chapel. A memorial for North Plains Community Church has been
established, in care of the funeral chapel.

night, death being due to cancer of the bowels. He is survived by the wife and

Emma E. Tucker, wife of Hiram A. Tucker, died at her home in Lyons Sunday,
June 10, after an illness of several days. She was a daughter of Henry G.
Halstead and was married to Mr. Tucker six years ago, since which she has
lived in this village. Three children survive. The funeral was held Tuesday,
Rev. Henn officiating. The pall bearers were E. B. Hale, Geo. Hitchcock, M.
Fred Baker and Will Buchanan. Interment in Lyons cemetery.

Mrs. Lottie Bogert, 79, died suddenly Saturday afternoon following a heart
attack at her home on Higbee Street. She was seen in the yard at her home
about 1 p.m. and at 2 oclock was found dead on the floor of her kitchen by a
neighbor, Mrs. W. Walter Atherton. Mrs. Bogert was born August 18, 1884 in
Bloomer township, Montcalm County, daughter of Henry and Mary Halsted, and
attended rural schools. With her family she moved to a farm near Pewamo about
67 years ago and later moved to a farm on Wager road near Lyons.
In 1902 she was married to Richard C. Bogert of near Palo and lived in Lyons
following their marriage. They lived 60 years at the same residence. Mr.
Bogert died in 1954. Mrs. Bogert was a member of First Baptist church and was
the oldest active member of the church. She did practical nursing until
retiring due to ill health.
Surviving are a son, Foster Bogert and a grandson, Major Bogert of Grand
Rapids; three brothers, Walter Halsted of North Plains township, Clinton of
Lyons, and Ford of Ionia, now in Florida. Two brothers and one sister
preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Lyons Baptist church with the
Rev. Keith Binkley officiating and interment at Lyons cemetery. The body will
be at Shaw-Rivett funeral home until Wednesday noon.

Funeral services were Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Lyons Baptist church for Mrs.
Lottie Bogert, who died suddenly at her home in Lyons, Saturday. Rev. Keith
Binkley, pastor of the church officiated. Mrs. Lawrence Albright was the
organist and accompanist for Terrence Wakefield, Soloist. Bearers were Robert
Daft, Edwin Kemp, Maynard Conklin, Clifford Halsted, Donald Halsted, and
Richard Halsted. Interment was in Lyons cemetery.

Funeral services for Richard C. Bogert, who died Monday evening at the Ionia
County Memorial Hospital, were held Thursday afternoon at 2 oclock from the
Lyons Baptist church with the Rev. Maurice Horn officiating assisted by the
Rev. Robert Eaton.
Vocalists were Norman Wakefield and Wayne Thomas and the organist was Mrs.
Clarence Potter. Bearers were Harold Wandel, Kenneth Wood, Norman Wakefield,
William Thomas, Clarence Potter and Lawrence Albright. Burial was at Lyons
cemetery.

Lyons Walter B. Halsted, 79, died late Wednesday at his home on Olmstead road
following a series of strokes. He had been in ill health for some time.
Mr. Halsted resided in Lyons a few years following his marriage in 1922 to Leona
Shattuck and had lived at the present farm the past 40 years. He was a poultry
raiser and fur buyer.
Born in Bloomer township, Montcalm county, September 12, 1886, he was the son of
Henry and Mary Halsted.
Surviving are his wife, Leona; four daughters, Mrs. Gerald Swainston of
California, Mrs. John Currigan of Mason, Mrs. William Maxwell of Midland and
Mrs. Philip Cummings of Long lake; two sons, Donald Halsted of New Brunswick,
N.J., and John with United States Navy at San Francisco, Calif.; 15
grandchildren; and one brother, Clinton Halsted of Lyons. Two sons, two
brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at North Plains Community church. The
body will remain at Shaw-Rivett-Hull funeral home in Muir until Sunday noon.
Burial will be at Lyons cemetery.

Lyons Funeral services for Walter B. Halsted were held Sunday at 2 p.m. from
the North Plains Community church with the pastor, Rev. Charles Henderson
officiating. Music was in charge of Mrs. Francis Ralph of Lyons. Bearers were
Kyle Obery, Howard Dick, Clee Brown, Max Reynolds, Bernard Russell and Wilbur
Wiggins. Burial was in Lyons cemetery.
Two sons, Verne and Jerry, preceded him in death also two brothers, Ned and Ford
and one sister, Mrs. Lottie Bogert.
Among those from away was a son, John, who is stationed with the United States
Navy at San Francisco, Calif.
Friends were from Battle Creek, Hastings, Grand Rapids, Ionia, Lansing, Mason,
Palo, DeWitt, Perrinton, Fowler, Muir and Lyons.
