Notes for William LOGGINS

Ramsey reports William Loggins was among those settling on the north bank of the Cumberland River in 1780. He states that some of the names were from "Haywood."

Court action was required to free a claim to land for heirs of William Loggins, who died intestate. A subsequent filing in 1826 indicates that Samuel died, leaving his children, Nathaniel, Alpha, Eliza, Jane, and Nancy.

"The River Counties Quarterly" by Jill K. Garrett, Pub., Columbia, Tennessee Vol. 1 No. 2, p. 130, states that William Loggins was killed in Montgomery Co., Tenn. John Rutlege was tried and found guilty Feb. 17, 1817.

I found some information on Charles Stinnett/Stennett living in Edwards Co., Ill. Unfortunately, I don't have it with me today. I found it in a county history of Edwards Co., Ill. Here's what I remember. William was the first to come from England to Maryland, I think the date was 1661. He had some land in Calvert Co., Md. Benjamin and James were brothers, and either grandsons or great-grandsons, the writer of the book wasn't sure which, of William. They both had land in Virginia, (can't remember much on that), and James had a son named John born before 1750. John moved to Mercer Co., Ky. He then lived in Washington Co., Ky with his son Charles and his wife Nancy Short. Both Charles and his wife Nancy Short were born (Charles about 1775) in Amherst Co., Va. and married before 1798. Their daughter Nancy married Leonard Bond (my gt-gt-gt Grandfather). Both families moved to Edwards Co., Illinois. Charles moved later to Wayne Co., Ill. I think he died in 1845. The book listed 10 children for Charles and Nancy. I believe someone was looking for information on a Daniel Stinnett/Stennett. Charles and Nancy had a sone Daniel, that eventually moved to Iowa, and was the first white settler in the area. I can't remember the information on him. I will send the information when I have it with me to clear up the rest of this. I hope this helps someone.

Md. State Archives- Charles, Joseph, John and William appear on a listdated 1-23-1695 for the enventory and accounts of debts and payments for estate of Henry Truman. Anyone know who's child Benjamin is? Col. Francis Triplitt-member of Va. house of delegates from Fauquer County married Benedicta Stinnett, daughter of Robert Stinnett of Charles County Md. in 1781. Robert was the son or grandson of Garrett Stinnett. (can't find thesource for that)

Your question regarding "has anyone seen these records". I have read the Maryland Records listed in Stein's book. I have his book. Stinnett'sRamble, 35 ac is listed in land records, however, I don't believe it was finally patented by a Stinnett. As far as I can tell, Stein searched Marylandtax records and ASSUMED (and is probably correct) of the lineage of Wm John, etc. In his book he stated "John, whose name appears on the Tax List of 1782 is followed by his son William, listed in the census of 1800." Stein's book was written as a History of Calvert Co. and as a Calvert Co. property owner I have found it to be interesting because so many original family names are still here as are several of the early properties. I've just never been able to put Ben and James into the above family - probably were or maybe were not ----- I keep wondering why, if Ben and James were bros of John or Wm, didn't John/Wm go off to Va. with Ben. There is nothing to indicate land or wealth here. Other Stinnetts in the Charles or Calvert Co. area in those years wereEdward and wife Jane, Amos and a Simon. Simon's will listed Eleanor Stinnett. Simon,as well as my previously mentioned Garrett Stinnett, were associated with Ben Stinnett's wife either in land deals or will records.
