Mr. Nelms died Monday (June 2, 2008) in Tyler.
He was born Sept. 16, 1928 in Elkhart to the late William Homer and Tinnie Mae McNeill Nelms.
Mr. Nelms was a telephone technician and retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone after 40 years of service. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army and was a member of Flint Baptist Church.
Mr. Nelm was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Floyd Thomas "Buster" Nelms.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Nelms;
sons, Larry Nelms and wife Senette of Elkhart, and Joe Nelms and wife Denise of Whitehouse; daughter, Becky Lohmeyer and husband Harris of Elkhart; and a sister, Adele Harris of Palestine, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Wade Nelms, Clint Lohmeyer, Todd Nelms, Joey Stuebgen, Garth Bolton and John Gray. Honorary pallbearers were golfing buddies from Oakhurst and Peach Tree golf courses.

Mrs. Nelms
Services for Etta Marie Nelms, 87, of Maydelle, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Hassell & Foster Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Otis Felton officiating. Burial will follow in Garden of Memories, Elkhart.
Mrs. Nelms died Saturday in a Jacksonville hospital following a lengthy illness.
She was born Sept. 17, 1897, in Burleson and was the daughter of Noad and Anna Belle Shetter Corley. She was a member of the Baptist church.
Survivors include daughters, Rebecca Johnson of Maydelle and Mrs. Porter Reis Genzel of Mount Pleasant, a son, Forrest Drew Nelms of Calhoun, La.; Sisters, Irene Cooper and Cora Coleman, both of Dallas; brother, T. C. Corley of Rivera, and Frank Corley and N. W. Corley, both of Dallas, 12 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Adger Thomas Nelms and a son, Benford N. Nelms.

Mrs. Nelms died Saturday at Villa Inn Nursing Home.
She was born in McKinney on Sept. 9, 1900, to Monroe and Kathleen Hortman Rutledge. She had lived in Elkhart since 1915, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Elkhart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Paxton "Pack" Nelms, on Jan. 15, 1969; and by two sons, Raymond Paxton Nelms, on Sept. 9, 1941, and Numan Harley Nelms, on Oct. 28, 1959.
She is survived by her daughters, Margie Ree Seynaeve Burke of Elkhart and LaVern Kennedy of Smith Point; sons, Jack Norris Nelms of Brazoria, Charles Travis "Pack" Nelms of New Caney and Doyal Davis Nelms of Grandbury; stepsister, Bertha Hortman of Houston; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons and great-grandsons, Doyal Edward Nelms, Duane Nelms, Terry Seynaeve, Brian Daniels, Daniel Tankusley, Tommy Kennedy, Packy Nelms, Raymond Nelms and Charles Kaltch.
